• Another 6,265 Iowans tested positive for COVID-19 in the past seven days. Iowa now has a total of 89,612 who have contracted the virus. There were 59 more deaths this week and sadly, there have been 1,358 Iowans who have died from COVID-19. 

 

  • For the first time since May 13, Iowa Department of Public Health reports more than 400 statewide COVID hospitalizations. That’s up 45% in the last 14 days. Also, 95% of Iowa hospitals reported new cases of confirmed or suspected coronavirus infection.

 

  • This week, Governor Reynolds and the Iowa Department of Public Health changed COVID guidelines when they no longer recommended that people go into a 14-day quarantine after having close contact with a person infected with the coronavirus if both people were wearing masks.

 

  • Once again, Iowa is in the White House Coronavirus Task Force’s “red zone”. The task force urged Iowa to take the following steps to mitigate the spread of COVID including requiring people to wear face masks in public, and recommending reduced capacity for indoor dining and bars while expanding outdoor dining options. However, Gov. Kim Reynolds has declined such suggestions. 

 

  • With a dramatic increase in COVID cases and increased positivity rates, two Test Iowa clinics are scheduled to open this week in the Sioux County area.There are now only 8 drive-thru Test Iowa sites and 18 Test Iowa clinics.
