Steve Hansen Announces Candidacy for Iowa House
Former Iowa Legislator Steve Hansen has announced his plan to file papers to pursue the candidacy of the Iowa House of Representatives, House District 14. As part of his announcement Hansen extended his appreciation to Rep. Timothy Kacena for his years of public service and for representing the residents of the 14th District. Kacena recently announced that he would not be seeking reelection to a 3rd term.
Hansen pledged to run an aggressive, issue based campaign. “I am looking forward to knocking on doors, attending meetings and most importantly listening to the citizens and gaining their input and insights on what matters most to them,” said Hansen.
Hansen served in the legislature from 1986 – 2002 at which time he became the Director of the Sioux City Public Museum. Hansen stated that his rationale for getting back into politics is his desire to work on priority issues imperative to the growth and prosperity of Sioux City and the state, particularly education, health care / mental health care, clean water and job creation. “We are also overdue for a total review of our tax structure, road formula, and how we assess property for taxation at the local level. We need to keep Iowa competitive, motivate people to move here and remain here upon retirement.”
Hansen and his wife Glenda Den Herder have been residents of Sioux City for over 45 years.
