Wes Breckenridge is currently serving his 3rd term in the Iowa House and represents most of Jasper County, including the communities of Newton, Baxter, Colfax, Ira, Kellogg, Mingo, Oakland Acres and Prairie City. He serves as Ranking Member of the House Public Safety Committee and also serves on the Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Veterans Affairs Committees, as well as the Agriculture/Natural Resources Budget subcommittee.
Wes earned a master’s degree in management from American Military University. He has a Master’s Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia and graduated from the FBI National Academy. Wes received his bachelor’s degree in public administration from Upper Iowa University.
Wes currently works as an instructor of criminal justice at DMACC. In 2017, Wes retired as a lieutenant from the Newton Police Department after a 27 career. He served as a School Resource Officer, DARE instructor, Drug Task Force Officer, and Traffic Safety Officer. He previously served as a Prairie City Police Officer, Monroe Police Department Interim Chief, and Jasper County Sheriff’s Reserves Deputy.
Wes works with a local social action committee on human trafficking awareness, and is also active with other community organizations.
Wes has been married to his wife Kris for over 32 years. They have three wonderful children and two grandchildren.
