Representative Marti Anderson
House District 36
Marti Anderson was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2012 to represent Northwest Des Moines and is serving her fourth term in the Iowa House. Marti is the Ranking Member of the Justice Appropriations Sub-committee. She also serves on the Human Resources, Environmental Protection, and State Government Committees.
Marti is a Des Moines native who graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1969. She earned a BA in social work from UNI and an MSW from the University of Iowa. Her social work career began in 1974 at Broadlawns Medical Center. Marti also served as the Statewide Rape Education Coordinator at Polk County Victim Services where she later became Director. She was the first Services Coordinator at Polk County Family Violence Center and the first Community Services Coordinator at what is now Prevent Child Abuse Iowa. Marti served 22-years as founding director of the Iowa Attorney General’s Crime Victim Assistance Division. She retired from the state in 2011 to run for the State House of Representatives.
Marti lives in the Beaverdale neighborhood with Bob Brammer, her husband of 27-years. Marti’s stepdaughter, Alissa with husband Lanon Baccam and daughter Freya lives in Des Moines. Her stepson, Gabe with wife Maca, daughter Violeta, and son Nicanor live in Copenhagen, Denmark. Marti’s daughter Shellie Price Wardlaw and husband Cornell live in Des Moines. Shellie’s son Roman with wife Britney have sons Rylee and Cameron, and her stepson Nigel live in Des Moines.
