Representative Eric Gjerde
House District 67
Representative Eric Gjerde is serving his first term in the Iowa House. Gjerde resides in Cedar Rapids with his wife Amy and three daughters Grace (10), Caroline (7) and Ella (7). Gjerde has lived in Iowa since graduating from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois where he earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Religion and Sociology. Gjerde also has Masters of Arts Degrees in Social Studies Education and Educational Administration from the University of Iowa and a Doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Northern Iowa.
Gjerde was elected by his caucus this year to serve as an Assistant Minority Leader. He also serves as a Member on the House Committees of Agriculture, State Government, Veterans Affairs and Ways and Means.
Gjerde is a member of the Iowa State Education Association, the Cedar Rapids Education Association, and the Iowa State Reserve Law Officers Association. Representative Gjerde is a 20-year veteran of Iowa’s Public-School system where he has taught special education. He is in his 11th year teaching at Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School. Gjerde also volunteers as a Linn County Special Deputy with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office where he has worked for 6 years after being certified through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. In his free time, Eric is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys spending time at various parks both camping and hiking with his family.
