House Democratic Leader Todd Prichard announced today the appointment of State Representative John Forbes of Urbandale as the Ranking Member on the Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee. Representative Forbes will be replacing former Representative Lisa Heddens, who resigned earlier this summer.
“I look forward to this new leadership role and working with my colleagues across the aisle to ensure that Iowans have access to affordable and reliable healthcare,” said Forbes, who is serving his fourth term in the Iowa House. “As we continue to see serious problems in our health care system, my hope is that despite past precedent Republican leaders will work with us to fix the failing privatized Medicaid system; improve and establish funding for child and adult mental health; provide new protections for children and daycares; and reinstate access to women’s health care and family planning services.”
Forbes, who represents House District 40, is a pharmacist and has owned and operated Medicap Pharmacy in Urbandale for the past 39 years.
The 2020 legislative session begins on January 13th.
