Steve grew up in Coin, Iowa and moved to Redfield , completing junior high and high school at Dexfield Community Schools. He competed in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He earned a B.A. in Mathematics from Tarkio College and was a varsity letter winner in football and golf.
A former math and physics teacher and coach for AvoHa, Griswold, and Des Moines Hoover. Steve recently passed the 30-year career mark in the insurance and financial industry. His practice is affiliated with Total Financial Solutions on Main Street in Panora.
Steve is a hunter, fisherman, paddler and an avid outdoors enthusiast. He is a former president of the Izaak Walton League and current Chair of the Raccoon River Watershed Association, a group of volunteers dedicated to promoting clean water and providing recreational opportunities. In 2013, he received the National Izaak Walton League of America Conservation Award for his efforts in promoting clean water. He also is the president of the Board of Directors of the Iowa Insurance Hall of Fame.
Steve served eight years as a Soil and Water District Commissioner, overseeing $1,885,000 of conservation funding for farmers and landowners.
Linda Roe grew up on a cattle and grain farm in southern Cass County near Elliott. Steve’s parents, Lucy and Coach Dean Roe, were career teachers In Redfield and Stuart-Menlo. His sister, Jan Schirm taught elementary in Waukee for 35 years. The Roe’s daughter Sarah teaches at Waukee and her husband is student teaching in elementary special education. They have five children, Fiona, Liam, Roman, Alora and Kai. Son Lantz is a computer engineer in Chicago with wife Adrienne and son Owen. Son Cale and his wife Heather are proud parents of Silas. Cale works for the State of Iowa Department of Education and Heather is a former teacher.
