Kevin Ericson was born in McCook, NE on December 16, 1960 to parents Kathy and Curtis Ericson. He has two sisters, Cindy and Becky, and a brother, Jim. At the age of ten, the family moved to Carroll, Iowa. All four siblings graduated from Carroll Kuemper High School. His parents were hard working middle class parents who instilled in their children the value of helping and serving others. Now Kevin is running for State Representative because he’s ready to contribute fresh ideas for economic growth, job creation, and quality education.
Kevin received a BA degree in History with a Business minor from Briar Cliff College in 1985. He worked for six years in the business world at Color Tile (a home improvement company). Kevin then studied theology at St. Louis University with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate for two years before deciding to attend the University of Northern Iowa to pursue his degree in Special Education. Kevin taught special education at Anson Middle School in Marshalltown, Iowa for one year before moving on to teach high school special education in Nevada, Iowa. Kevin is currently teaching for his 15th year at Nevada High School.
Kevin has been an active member of the Nevada Community Education Association (NCEA) for 17 years. As a member of the Association he has held, or is holding the following positions: Negotiations Team (Lead Negotiator for the Past 10 Years); Government Relations Chair; Vice President & Current President; Currently is the Representative for NCEA on Mid-Iowa UniServ Unit Executive Board; Member of Iowa State Education Association Political Action Committee; and Former Chair of the Building Support for Public Education State Committee. Kevin also participated in the UniServ Pre-employment Training with the National Education Association in Washington, D.C.
Kevin has been an active member of the Story County Democrats. As a member of the Story County Democrats he has held the following positions: Precinct Captain in Maxwell; Delegate from Maxwell to the Story County Convention; Member of the Platform Committee; Member of the Central Committee; he has also been a part of numerous Democratic campaigns conducted in Story County.
Kevin and his family are members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada, Iowa. Kevin currently serves on the Parish Council. Kevin and his wife Gina have taught Religious Education classes and currently teach Baptism Preparation classes. Kevin greatly enjoys the outdoors, is an avid golfer, and enjoys camping. Kevin golfs on the men’s golf league at Twin Anchors Golf Course in Colo, Iowa. He also enjoys golfing with his family at The Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes, Iowa where he works part time and summers. Kevin greatly enjoys reading both professional literature and science fiction.
