State Representative Charlie McConkey of Council Bluffs has been selected by his colleagues to serve as an Assistant Minority Leader in the Iowa House of Representatives for the 2020 legislative session.

“I’m honored to be selected by my colleagues to this leadership post. My goal this session is to keep the House focused on the issues important to everyday Iowans and working families like health care, jobs and education,” said Rep. McConkey.

McConkey is serving currently serving his 3rd term in the Iowa House.  He serves on Commerce, Economic Growth, Labor, and the Ways & Means Committees.  He also serves on the Flood Mitigation Board and the Flood Infrastructure Board. McConkey is a life-long resident of Council Bluffs and a retired steelworker from Griffin Pipe.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve the people of Council Bluffs at the State Capitol and look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to make Iowa a better place to live and work,” concluded McConkey.

McConkey is one of four legislators elected to serve as an Assistant Minority Leader during the 2020 Legislative Session. He replaces Rep. Wes Breckenridge on the leadership team, who resigned in December to become Ranking Member of the House Public Safety Committee. Other assistant leaders include Representative Jennifer Konfrst of Windsor Heights, Representative Sharon Steckman of Mason City, and Representative Brian Meyer of Des Moines.

The 2020 session opened on Monday at the State Capitol.
