The Iowa economy posted its third and largest job gain for the year in March, while the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged up to 6.8 percent. The March rate compared with 6.7 percent for February, and 5.5 percent for March 2009. The U.S. unemployment rate for March remained at 9.7 percent.

The total number of working Iowans increased slightly to 1,570,500 in March from 1,570,300 in February. One year ago, the figure was reported at 1,581,100.
