Small business owner Heidi Guggisberg-Coners of Council Bluffs made her official announcement today that she will run for State Representative in District 16 seat, which includes the southern part of Council Bluffs.

“As a small business owner and community college instructor, I understand the challenges we face growing Iowa’s skilled workforce and helping small businesses expand to create good-paying jobs,” said Guggisberg-Coners, who won the Democratic Primary earlier this month. “My top priority in the Iowa House will be putting Iowans back to work and improving the quality of life in Council Bluffs. I will work hard to find common ground, put aside the partisanship, and move Iowa forward.”

Heidi Guggisberg-Coners is a community college instructor with twelve years of experience. She is also a professional speaker who knows the challenges of building a small business. Both her speaking business and community college courses are focused on communications.

“I will listen to the concerns of the people of Council Bluffs and be a strong voice for them in the Iowa House. I will always do what’s best for Council Bluffs and keep the Legislature focused on the issues that matter most,” added Guggisberg-Coners, who grew up on a large dairy farm where she learned the value of hard work.

Heidi Guggisberg-Coners lives in Council Bluffs with her husband, Cory, who has served in Iraq. Currently foster parents of two active boys, they are helping foster children with their educational goals and involved in extracurricular activities. She has also volunteered with several local groups, including: Celebrate Council Bluffs, Metro Youth Flag Football Association, Achieving Maximum Potential at Children’s Square, YMCA, & the MICAH House Homeless Shelter.

Guggisberg-Coners is also a member of the local chapter of Toastmasters and the Speakers, Publishers, and Authors Association.
