An analysis from the non-partisan Legislative Services Agency shows Governor Branstad’s budget for next year includes a 9.1% increase for his own office.

“Governor Branstad should be embarrassed. A 9% increase for his own office but only 1% for our schools and kids is just wrong. Iowans shouldn’t be fooled by his hollow rhetoric on the budget this year,” said House Democratic Leader Mark Smith of Marshalltown.

According to a report prepared by the Legislative Fiscal Bureau this week, Governor Branstad’s FY 2016 budget recommendations include a 9.1% increase, or $200,000, for “increased day-to-day operational expenses of the Governor’s Office.”

“Budgets are more than just numbers, they reflect our priorities. It’s clear the Governor’s biggest priority is himself,” added Smith.
