With Wednesday being Transportation Day at the Statehouse, the Iowa DOT rolled out a new service to Iowans during these winter months. This new feature will show the current location of snowplows working in your area. This can be accessed from the Iowa DOT’s website at www.iowadot.gov.

On the Iowa DOT website, click on “plan ahead” and then “winter driving.” This page has information related to winter driving, however to see the snowplow map click on “Snowplow locations”. Once you are on the map, snowplow icons will show you the current location of each truck working to keep your roads safe.

For more detailed information, click on an individual snowplow icon to see when the snowplow location was last reported, what direction the snowplow was traveling, and the reported air temperature. Data is fed automatically to the map from each Iowa DOT snowplow every two minutes.

Representative Roger Thomas of Elkader talks with Iowa DOT officials about the new snowplow location map feature during Transportation Day at the Statehouse on Wednesday.
