KarinDerryJohnston, Iowa – Karin Derry, community volunteer, mother of three and attorney from Johnston, announced her candidacy to represent Iowa’s 39th House District, which includes Johnston, Grimes, and Urbandale.

“I’m running for the Iowa House because politicians at the Iowa Statehouse are not moving Iowa in the right direction,” Derry said. “As an 18 year resident of Johnston, I believe that the state legislature is not paying attention to the needs of our district. We need to fix the state budget deficit that’s costing taxpayers, attract better paying jobs with benefits, a health care system that is affordable and accessible to all Iowans, and communities that are safe for families. ”

Derry serves as in-house counsel at DHI Group in Urbandale. Prior to DHI, Derry fought dependent adult abuse as a compliance officer for the State of Iowa and was an associate attorney with Whitfield & Eddy. She’s also worked at Broadlawns Medical Center, Easter Seals of Iowa, and Lutheran Social Services of Iowa.

“Iowa politicians keep putting corporate tax giveaways ahead of working families and taxpayers,” said Derry. That’s why Iowa now has a $259 million dollar budget deficit. And that’s why we are being told Iowa can’t afford to educate our children, keep our communities safe, and to fix healthcare problems. I will fight to put taxpayers and the people of Iowa first again.”

Karin is married with three children. Karin’s husband Jeff has worked for 24 years as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service. Karin is active in her community, serving various volunteer roles with the Primary Health Care Board of Directors, Iowa Dependent Adult Protective Advisory Council, Central Iowa AIDS Project Board of Directors, and St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston.

“Our campaign is about working with people of all political parties to move Iowa forward in a positive direction. I plan to put people before political party when it comes to delivering for our state,” added Derry.
