Sara is an Iowa native, growing up in Solon in a middle-class family. She attended Kirkwood Community College and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa.

Sara was the editor of the West Liberty Index newspaper from 2006 to 2009. She was the youngest editor in the state when she started and won a number of awards during her tenure there, including 1st place Master Columnist and 1st place Best Series from the Iowa Newspaper Association.

After leaving the newspaper, Sara served as a legislative aide to Sen. Daryl Beall during the 2010 session. Following session, she joined the Culver/Judge campaign as Deputy Press Secretary and Assistant to the First Lady. On Dec. 31, 2010, Sara headed to Chicago to begin her new position as Communications Director for a little-known mayoral candidate. Following the election, Sara finished up the 2011 session as legislative aide to Rep. John Wittneben.

Sara and her husband, Rob Krysh, returned to West Liberty after the 2011 session. The couple purchased a home in West Liberty and now own and operate the coffee shop, Local Grounds.

Sara has been an active member of her community, serving as a trustee for the West Liberty School Foundation and a member of the West Liberty Steering Committee; she is a graduate of Leadership West Liberty, a Junior Achievement volunteer teacher and the Public Relations Chair for the Rotary Club of West Liberty.

Sara has recently been endorsed by the Quad City Federation of Labor.
