Susan Judkins has founded and led economic and leadership development programs, launched the state’s successful Vision Iowa program, and guided passage of critical legislation following Iowa’s 2008 floods. She served as a school board member, and her many volunteer activities focus on Iowa’s quality of life and international relations. Susan currently works as Community Development Specialist for MSA Professional Services, an engineering and consulting firm based in Baraboo, WI with offices in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. She assists clients with identifying infrastructure and planning needs and funding opportunities.

A native of Vinton, Iowa, where her family has operated Ervin Motor Company since 1930, Susan first came to Central Iowa to attend Iowa State University. After moving to Warren County, she graduated from Simpson College with a BA in Business Management. Early work in the banking and legal fields provided a solid background for a later career focus on community and policy development. She received her MBA from the University of Iowa. Susan has made Clive her home since 2006.

Susan recently served as Intergovernmental Affairs Director for the Rebuild Iowa Office, promoting policies to assist in rebuilding from the weather disasters of 2008. She previously helped to finance community projects as Vice President of Piper Jaffray, advocated for the Iowa League of Cities, managed the Vision Iowa program with the Iowa Department of Economic Development, and was Executive Director of the Warren County Economic Development Corporation.

Susan has been a leader in numerous community organizations, including current board service with the Iowa International Center, Center on Sustainable Communities, StageWest Theater and the Riverfront YMCA. She is active in local and regional chamber activities, including co-chairing the Flood Mitigation Subcommittee for the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Capital Crossroads strategic plan, and serving on the legislative committee of Professional Developers of Iowa. She is active in the Rotary Club of Des Moines and is a member of First United Methodist Church of Des Moines.

She has promoted education and leadership development for youth and adults through service on the Indianola School Board, chairing the Leadership Iowa Board of Governors, founding the Warren County Leadership Institute, and leading Junior Achievement education modules in elementary classrooms in Indianola and Des Moines.

Susan is married to Bob Josten, an attorney at Dorsey & Whitney, they have three grown children.
