Kasey Friedrichsen grew up in the Denison-Schleswig area.  She is the daughter of Andrew and Sylvia Friedrichsen of Amarillo, Texas and Terry and Leah Preul of Denison.  Friedrichsen’s interest in politics began at Denison High School, where she established Denison’s local chapter of Just Eliminate Lies, a state-wide youth-led anti-tobacco group, after her first visit to Des Moines’ capitol building in 9th grade to lobby her legislators about the dangers of smoking among teens. Friedrichsen also served on the Executive Council of the state-wide Just Eliminate Lies group throughout high school and served as a page in the Iowa Senate.

Friedrichsen graduated with a bachelor’s degree of political science from Drake University in 2009 where she was an active member of the Drake Democrats, Alpha Phi sorority and the Drake Varsity Women’s Crew Team.  Throughout her time at Drake, Friedrichsen served as an intern in the United States House of Representatives in Washington DC for a semester and also as a clerk in the Iowa House of Representatives.

Upon graduation from Drake, Friedrichsen worked for Iowa Workforce Development in Des Moines and Denison.  Due to the unfortunate closure of the Denison Iowa Workforce Development office, Friedrichsen’s position at IWD was eliminated in August 2011. Friedrichsen remains dedicated to providing vital public services to Iowans and represents Iowa’s workers as an active member of AFSCME.

Friedrichsen completed her Master’s Degree of Public Administration from Drake University in December 2011.

Friedrichsen resides in Schleswig, she is a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison and an Executive Board member of the Denison Young Professionals.  She currently works with Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company as a Benefits Consultant.
