Iowa legislators will host the State of Iowa’s Black History Month Celebration on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, in the Iowa House Chambers at the State Capitol in Des Moines.

A Black History Month proclamation will be read and signed by Governor Terry E. Branstad. There will also be performances depicting African American history through music, poetry, and drama.

The participating members of the Iowa House are Representative Ako Abdul-Samad of Des Moines, Representative Deborah Berry of Waterloo, Representative Ruth Ann Gaines of Des Moines, Representative Helen Miller of Fort Dodge, Representative Walt Rogers of Waterloo, Representative Renee Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Representative Phyllis Thede of Davenport, and Representative John Wittneben of Estherville.
