The 2014 session of the Iowa Legislature opened today Monday, January 13th at the State Capitol in Des Moines with  a priority of creating jobs to help grow Iowa’s middle class.

Strengthen Iowa’s middle class during the 2014 legislative session includes providing more economic security to middle class families through initiatives like raising the minimum wage, freezing tuition, and expanding job training efforts so Iowans can get the skills they need to land a good-paying job. Some of other issues likely to be considered this session include: encouraging the continuation of production and use of renewable energy like wind, solar, and biofuels; expanding access to broadband and free WI-FI, especially in underserved rural areas; cutting taxes for middle class families; and expanding preschool.
