Health Care Commission Starts Work

State Representative Mark Smith of Marshalltown kicked-off a new health care commission of Iowans today at the State Capitol that will craft a plan to ensure all Iowans have quality, affordable health care.  Created by the Iowa Legislature last session, the commission will build on a plan started three years ago that will make Iowa the first in the nation to ensure every child has health care.

The Health Care Coverage Commission is made up of 11 private citizens and will continue work throughout the fall.  The initial report will be completed by January 1, 2010 before the 2010 legislative session begins.
