Please work to increase the Medicaid program now that the governors health plan is not approved and accept federal dollars for total Medicaid coverage for all poor Iowans. In a state where people go without healthcare coverage you and I pay for it. Uncovered Iowans go to emergency rooms, are hospitalized with no source of payment. We then pay for their services through increased health care costs, taxes are raised and this lack of coverage affects our economy. In this land of plenty, it is an embarrassment to me (and it should be to all Iowans) that people go without healthcare and services. The elderly poor cannot afford their medications so they go without. As a retired RN I have witnessed the results of this lack of care, the result is mind numbing as people die because we do not take advantage of available monies through Medicaid. This is broken system and remains so. HELP!!!!! I am not a user of Medicaid, only a concerned Iowan.
