Democrat Monica Kurth won big in today’s House District 89 special election. The seat was vacated when Rep. Jim Lykam won a December 27th senate special election.
Kurth defeated Republican candidate Mike Gonzales 72% to 27% in the west Davenport district. She received 2081 votes to Gonzales’ 784 votes.
Monica has dedicated her life to serving Davenport. As a counselor and instructor at Scott Community College for over 20 years, Monica has focused on preparing our community for the 21st century economy. Monica has two grown children and is an active member of Quad-Cities Interfaith of Davenport.
Tonight’s victory is a reminder that Democrats are successful when we work together and fight for our values. House Democrats will continue to fight for our values and stand up to Republican attempts to take Iowa in the wrong direction.
