Iowa House District 28
Martin Duffy is running for State House in District 28, which includes Knoxville, Monroe, Pleasantville, and Melcher-Dallas. Duffy was born in Tracy, Iowa on November 29, 1951. Duffy is married to Knoxville Community School teacher, Jackie. They have a son, Marty who owns a small business in both Pella and Oskaloosa; a daughter-in-law, Betsy; and three amazing grandchildren: Lily, Hank, and Danny.
Duffy graduated from Twin Cedars Community School District in 1970 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He attended William Penn College and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Social Science and History Education. Duffy taught in Iowa for five years before moving to Texas to work for Texas International Airline as a baggage handler. He became the youngest station manager in the company’s history and was stationed at Hartford, Connecticut.
For the next twenty years, Duffy worked in the airline industry eventually becoming vice president of a Fortune 500 company. He returned to Iowa to be with his father who was diagnosed with cancer, and to give his son the opportunity to attend school in Iowa. For the last twenty years, Duffy has had the privilege of teaching students at Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Iowa.
