Iowa House District 95
Andrews, a member of the Teamsters local 238, has worked for the City of Mount Vernon for the last three years and has been a resident of Mount Vernon for five years. He and his family moved to the area in 2013 and he began volunteering for various community development projects and coaching recreational league baseball. Andrews won a Volunteer of the Month Award in May of 2017 for work he did building a portable photo booth as a fundraising project to bring the Smithsonian “Hometown Teams” exhibit to Mount Vernon.
Prior to moving to Mount Vernon, Andrews owned a small business in Cedar Falls, Iowa, specializing in remodeling and carpentry work. He and his wife and partner of 24 years, Mariah Andrews, helped to found the education advocacy group Unify for Education, to encourage the Iowa state legislature and Iowa Board of Regents to institute a public comment period during Regents’ meetings.
Andrews is running now to be a voice for local workers, for parents, for small business owners and for everyday Iowans. He will work to ensure excellent education from pre-K through trade school or college, access to quality healthcare and support for local businesses that provide good jobs.
