Iowa House District 80
Susan McDanel, retired educator, community volunteer, wife, and mom of two, is running to represent Iowa House District 80, which includes Appanoose, Mahaska, Monroe, and Wapello counties.
McDanel was born and raised on a farm in Appanoose county. Susan spent 38 years teaching history and government at Centerville High School. During her career teaching, Susan was also the student council advisor for student volunteering and used participatory citizen activities to get her students involved early on in their community. She was named Centerville Teacher of the Year, Iowa Social Studies Teacher of the Year, named twice as Student Council Advisor of the Year, and was named 2006 National Student Council Advisor of the Year.
McDanel is married to her childhood sweetheart, Jody with two adult children and grandchildren. In their free time, Susan and Jody have fun getting together with their grandchildren, playing all kinds of games, visiting, and attending sports games. Susan is also actively involved in her community and serves various volunteer roles with the PEO, Democratic Central Committee, Grace United Methodist Church, Wednesday Club, Ruritan helper, AEDC (Appanoose Economic Development Corp),
Appanoose County Historical Museum, ARC of Appanoose County, Sustaining of the YMCA, and Concert Association.
