As schools hand out the final pink slips to teachers across Iowa today, Democrats said they will give House Republicans another chance to compromise and resolve the school funding crisis with a vote in the Iowa House this afternoon.
“We’re going to give House Republicans another chance to put aside the DC politics and resolve the school funding crisis today,” said Rep. Cindy Winckler of Davenport. “There will be 1,134 fewer educators in our schools next year. It’s time for Republicans to start listening to their school leaders and compromise.”
This afternoon, House Democrats will bring up a 2.625% increase in school aid for the upcoming school year on the education budget (Amendment H-1290 to House File 658). That was first offered a month ago, but Republicans have refused to compromise.
