Member profile: Rep. Vicki Lensing03.13.08

Vicki Lensing is serving her fourth term in the Iowa House. She serves as Chair of the Government Oversight Committee and also serves on the Environmental Protection, Judiciary, and State Government Committees.

Vicki was born June 21, 1957 in Iowa City, the daughter of John and Patti Mott. She grew up in the family business, Mott’s Drug Store, which was owned and operated by her grandparents. A life long resident of Iowa City, she graduated from West High School in 1975 and from the University of Iowa in 1979. (more…)

Member profile: Rep. Mark Kuhn03.12.08

Mark Kuhn is serving his fifth term in the Iowa House. He serves as Vice Chair of the Appropriations Committee and Chair of the Agriculture & Natural Resources Budget Subcommittee. He also serves on the Agriculture, Environmental Protection, and Public Safety Committees.

Mark was born in Charles City on September 10, 1950. His father, Max, was a farmer and his mother, Helen, was a teacher.

He was raised on his family’s farm south of Charles City and graduated from Charles City High School in 1968. He attended Iowa State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in history and his teaching certificate. (more…)

Member profile: Rep. Bob Kressig03.11.08

Bob Kressig is serving his second term in the Iowa House of Representatives. He is Vice Chair of the Commerce and Local Government Committees and also serves on the Environmental Protection and Public Safety Committees as well as the Administration & Regulation Budget Subcommittee.

Bob Kressig is the former Chairman of the Cedar Falls Planning and Zoning Commission. He is also a member of Veridian Credit Union Board of Directors. Bob also serves on the Cedar Valley’s Promise Policy Board, the University of Northern Iowa’s Metal Casting Center Board of Directors, North Star Community Services Board of Directors, and was appointed by the legislature to serve on the Senior Coordinating Living Unit in Des Moines. Member profile: Rep. Doris Kelley03.10.08

Doris is serving her first term in the Iowa House. She is Chair of the Financial Services Standing Subcommittee, Vice Chair of the Administration & Regulation Budget Subcommittee and also serves on the Commerce, Education, Local Government, and Ways & Means Committees.

Doris Kelley is well-known in the Cedar Valley. Her personal and professional contributions have included a wide array of organizations, businesses and industry. She has lived in the Waterloo Cedar Falls area for 31 years, serving on numerous civic and community boards and committees.

Kelley has an extensive professional background in community economic development, marketing, and public relations. The scope of her experience encompasses leadership in downtown revitalization, corporate development, media relations, market research, public speaking, and communications utility development and marketing. Member profile: Rep. David Jacoby03.07.08

David Jacoby is serving his third term in the Iowa House. He serves as the Chair on the Economic Development Budget Subcommittee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Commerce, Human Resources, and State Government Committees as well as the Administration Rules Review.

Dave was born and raised in Marion, Iowa to George and Millie Jacoby, who are now retired. Dave graduated from Marion High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Northern Iowa.

Dave was elected to two terms on the Coralville City Council, where he was a leader in developing policy in a high growth and community oriented city. His service on the Council has been an asset in the Legislature in understanding the challenges of local government. (more…)

Member profile: Rep. Geri Huser03.06.08

Geri Huser is serving her sixth term in the Iowa House. She is Chair of the Transportation Committee and also serves on the Judiciary, Local Government, and Ways & Means Committees.

Geri is a graduate of Southeast Polk High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Briar Cliff College and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Drake University. Geri received her law degree from Drake Law School in 2004. She currently practices law at the Skinner Law Firm in Altoona.

She and her husband, Dan, were married in 1984. Dan is employed by Casey’s General Stores. Geri and Dan have two children, Kelli and Blake.

Member profile: Rep. Bruce Hunter03.05.08

Bruce Hunter is serving his third term in the Iowa House. He serves as Chair of the Administration & Regulation Budget Subcommittee and also serves on the Appropriations, Human Resources, Labor, and Public Safety Committees.

Bruce Hunter was born to Norm and Iris Hunter on June 22, 1955 in Alma, WI. After growing up in Wisconsin and Minnesota, Bruce graduated from Ellendale High School in Ellendale, MN. After high school, Bruce attended Winona State University for two years and Saint Cloud State University for one year.

Bruce is married to Betty Brim-Hunter. He works for Iowa Student Loans since November 2005 as a loan consultant. He worked for Citi Group as a Customer Service Manager for 8 years. Betty works as the State Political Director for AFL-CIO. (more…)

Member profile: Rep. Lisa Heddens03.04.08

Lisa Heddens is serving her third term in the Iowa House. She is an assistant Majority Leader. She serves on the Administration and Rules, Education, Human Resources and the Public Safety Committees.

Lisa was born on June 6, 1964 in Rochester, Minnesota. She and her husband Jeff moved to Iowa in 1984 and have lived in Ames for over twenty years.

In 1989, Lisa earned a teaching certificate in elementary education at Iowa State University. She has spent most of her professional life working with family service agencies. She currently works for ASK- the Access for Special Kids - Resource Center, a statewide non-profit organization that offers information and trainings on special education issues. From 1994-1998, she served as Family Support Coordinator for the U.S. Army Reserves. She has worked as a substitute teacher in Ames and the surrounding school districts and was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2002.

Lisa’s husband Jeff is a Construction Engineer with the Iowa Department of Public Defense. They have two children.

Member profile: Rep. Elesha Gayman03.03.08

Elesha is in her first term in the House of Representatives and is Vice Chair of the Health & Human Services Budget Subcommittee. She also serves on the Agriculture, Appropriations, Education, and Public Safety Committees.

Born and raised in Davenport, Elesha Gayman graduated from Davenport West High School where she served on the Davenport youth city council and in student government. Member profile: Rep. Mary Gaskill02.29.08

Mary Gaskill is serving her third term in the Iowa House. She serves as Chair of the Local Government committee and serves on the Environmental Protection and State Government and Transportation Committees as well as the Administration and Regulation Budget Subcommittee.

Mary grew up on a small family farm in Northwest Missouri. She is the daughter of Andrew and Lucile Meyer, Mary moved to Iowa in 1962 and has lived in Ottumwa since 1966.

After graduation from high school in 1959, Mary attended Business School at Gard University in St. Joseph, Missouri. In addition to her State Representative service Mary enjoys doing community volunteer work in Ottumwa. Previously, Mary completed twenty-two years of dedicated service to Wapello County, sixteen as County Auditor and six as clerk to the County Auditor. (more…)
