Kelley to Lead Financial Services

State Representative Doris Kelley of Waterloo has been tapped to lead the House Financial Services Standing Subcommittee by House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque. The subcommittee will review all legislation relating to banks and credit unions. The subcommittee is part of the House Commerce Committee, which considers all legislation regarding business, financial institutions, insurance, utilities and real estate.

“Rep. Kelley’s experience in business, community development, and telecommunications has prepared her to lead the financial services committee,” said Murphy. “I know she will work across party lines and listen. Rep. Kelley can build consensus on difficult issues and she will always do what is best for her district.”

Kressig Appointed to VC of Commerce

House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque has appointed State Representative Bob Kressig of Cedar Falls as vice-chair of the House Commerce Committee, which considers all legislation regarding business, financial institutions, insurance, utilities and real estate.

“I trust Rep. Kressig to help us create an environment where businesses can thrive and create good paying jobs while ensuring Iowa consumers get a fair shake. I know he will work across party lines to build consensus on difficult issues,” said Murphy.

Rep. Thomas Receives Business Award

State Representative Roger Thomas of Elkader received the 2007 Leadership Award from the Professional Developers of Iowa. Thomas is chair of the House Economic Growth Committee.  The award was announced in the PDI October newsletter: 

“As many of you know, the PDI Leadership Award is presented to a legislator that has played a lead role in promoting economic development in Iowa and in advancing PDI’s goals of promoting a positive business climate, expanding the state’s tax base, creating and retaining high-paying jobs and building the industries of the future.

Rep. Staed Appointed VC of Economic Dev Budget

State Representative Art Staed of Cedar Rapids has been named Vice-Chair of the Economic Development Budget Subcommittee by House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque.

“With experience in both small business and education, I trust Rep. Staed to help us create good-paying jobs and make sure our workforce is prepared for the jobs in today’s global economy,” said Murphy.
