HOUSE EXPANDS INSURANCE COVERAGE FOR PROSTHETICS

kressig-2009officialreducedLed by State Representative Bob Kressig of Cedar Falls, the Iowa House approved a bill to expand health insurance coverage for prosthetics. 

House File 311, which was approved on a 64-33 vote, requires health insurance companies to cover medically necessary prosthetic arms and legs at the same level as Medicare.

Health Care for Kids, Balanced Budget Highlight 2008 Session

The 2008 legislative session adjourned for the year last week with a fiscally responsible, balanced budget and continued progress in health care, education and good-paying jobs highlighted by Democratic Leaders.

“We produced a balanced state budget with a modest 4.5 percent increase over last year. Our state savings accounts are full and at the highest level in Iowa history. We have also repaid $263 million of the $300 million we owe to the Senior Living Trust Fund,” said House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque. “Democrats pledged to produce a fiscally responsible budget again this year and we kept our promise using sound budgeting principles.” (more…)

House Sends Smoking Ban to Conference

The Iowa House today sent the SmokeFree Air Act, House File 2212, to a House-Senate Conference Committee to work out their differences.  The House and Senate will each appoint five members.  Both the House and Senate will have to approve the Conference Committee report before it is sent to the Governor. 

House Speaker Pat Murphy appointed the following House members to the Conference Committee: Rep. Janet Petersen of Des Moines, Rep. Tyler Olson of Cedar Rapids, Rep. Mike Reasoner of Creston, Rep. Cecil Dolecheck of Ringgold and Rep. Chuck Soderberg of Le Mars.
