Rachel R. Bly, 40, resides in Grinnell where she serves on the Grinnell City Council and heads the Conference Operations and Events Office at Grinnell College. She is a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, holds a B.A. in Political Science from Grinnell College and earned an MPA from Drake University. Rachel’s early career took her to Washington, D.C. where as part of a national organization supporting child care providers, she worked with advocates in all 50 states on child care policy issues. After returning to Iowa she entered the field of higher education and has served in a number of roles including alumni and community relations.
A graduate of the Poweshiek Leadership Program and the Grinnell Citizens Police Academy, Rachel has held leadership positions on many community boards and organizations including the Grinnell Community Day Care and Preschool Board, the Grinnell Regional Medical Center Community Care Clinic, Renaissance, and League of Women Voters. She is also involved in TTT , PEO, the Grinnell Area Arts Council and many activities with her family.
Rachel lives in a downtown loft with her husband Bob Hamilton, the owner and operator of Hamilton Insurance, a family business which has been at the same downtown location for over 80 years; and son Davis, an active third grader at Davis Elementary School.
