Brian Quirk is serving his 6th term in the Iowa House. He is a Ranking Member of the Commerce committee. He also serves on the Agriculture, State Government, Ways and Means, Transportation and Infrastructure and Capitals Appropriations subcommittees.
Brian Quirk was born in New Hampton on July 11, 1968. He is the son of Duane and Margaret Quirk, who have owned and operated New Hampton Electric since 1970.
Brian attended St. Joseph Catholic School in New Hampton and graduated from New Hampton High School in 1986. After graduation, Brian entered the Army where he served for 4 ½ years. His tour of duty included six months in Germany and 18 months in South Korea. Brian’s unit was deployed to Panama when dictator Manuel Noriega was removed from power and played a major role in Operation Desert Storm against Iraq.
He served in Iraq for four months. Brian received several Army Achievement Medals and army accommodation for his service. After returning home, Brian earned an Associates in Arts, and an Associates in Science degree for pre-engineering at the North Iowa Area Community College. He attended Mankato State University and studied electrical engineering while enrolled.
He married Anita Ries of New Hampton in 1994. They have two daughters, Celena and Claire. His wife, Anita, is a teacher at New Hampton elementary school.
Brian is active in his community. He is a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is past commander of the local American Legion post. He has helped raise money through both organizations to send local students to the annual Boys State convention and to assist other charitable organizations. He is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and has worked with fellow Lions Club members to build community needs, local parks, and raise funds for handicapped children.
Brian is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where he serves as a lector and has raised money and donated labor for the construction of the new school addition.
