  • Tim O'Brien says:

    Dearest Charlotte,
If you wanted to vote on the Gay marriage issue, why did you not vote to have a Constitutional Convention? It clearly appeared on the ballot in the last Mid-term election.
Judges must only apply the law as it is written. If you want a different outcome, change the law. In this case, change the constitution to read; All men are created equal except if you are gay and want to get married.
Of course, the first exception is always the most difficult to get done. The next ones will come easier and unfortunately may impact your equal rights.

  • arvin says:

let the gays have the same rites as the rest of us have.

  • arvin says:

do not tax our diamond joe casino thay fund our comunity our schools and more.

  • Erica Ferranti says:

The members of the house who have voted to amend the state constitution to discriminate against certain citizens of Iowa by banning gay marriage. Shame on you. Shame on Representative Richard Anderson who has publicly stated that
“if the line isn’t drawn at traditional marriage, then what happens when brothers and sisters or polygamists ask to marry?” That is an argument that was also used to argue against inter-racial marriage and it holds no more validity now as it did then. Representative Anderson has also stated that there should be a constitutional amendment because “It’s the people who determine the constitution…and giving them the right to vote on this issue demonstrates devotion to democracy, not bias, not prejudice and not discrimination,” It puts in the hands of the everyday people the power, the authority to determine what the definition of marriage ought to be.” Let’s be honest, if the Supreme Court hadn’t ruled as they did in Loving v. Virginia we probably would still be discriminating against inter-racial couples. Again, I say to those members of the House that voted in favor of this amendment, SHAME ON YOU!

  • Michelle Zinnecker says:

Please vote AGAINST the bill banning traffic cameras. Anti-social individuals who believe they do not have to follow the law make the streets dangerous for the rest of us. Please afford law-abiding citizens every protection available. As far as “privacy” concerns, no one should believe they have privacy when on a public street.

  • Cecil Azbill says:

I think its time for a state wide strike of all public unions, and send send the republicans where we stand

  • Patrice Duggan says:

I am truely appalled by the waste of time witchhunt the Iowa House continues to conduct against gay citizens in Iowa. You are an embarrasement to our state. Honor the oaths you took to uphold the Iowa consitution which all of this nonsense surely does not.

  • Karen says:

Support HF153….a heartbeat is a life!!!

  • Marilyn Rennison says:

PLEASE retain womens rights by voting against HF153. What are you thinking that it is ok to restrict womens rights. Women have rights too not just the ridiculous churches and unborn. Women are already here. Give us a break. Anyone who votes against us will NOT get re-elected. Think of how much it costs taxpayers and government to support those who do get pregnant and have no insurance. You do realize that they DO NOT have insurance. Who do you think pays???????????

  • Kristy says:

Please vote to continue union’s rights to collective bargaining. Protect Iowan workers, and the Iowan middle class! Thank you.

  • Steve says:

It is disgusting that Iowa is even considering looking at legislation put forth to make those exposing criminal behavior against animals at Iowa CAFO facilities criminals themselves. I urge you to immediately vote against Big Agriculture’s attempts to hide the cruel practises they engage upon and look instead to make the industry more transparent and force facilities to adopt procedures that are not cruel to animals.

  • Bernadette Rhodes says:

I am begging you to vote no for hunting the mourning doves. I feed them along with the ring neck turtle doves, if they aren’t at the feeders they are hanging out on power lines, so hunters can go along the roads scare them off the power lines and shoot at them in our neighborhood. I live on the outside of Altoona. It is bad enough when it’s pheasant season or deer season it sounds like world war II. Hunters will not eat them, because there is nothing to eat. It’s just another excuse for them to have target practice and for the dnr to raise more money for their salaries. I was reading the Warren County History 1879 and it tells of wiping out the prarie chickens that use to roam. There were bison, elk, and even wolves. All of which was wiped out. The pheasants were depleted last winter because it was bad, and the hunters wined because they were in short demand during the hunting season. So DNR let anyone get a hunting licence because of the money. They will soon be wiped out like the prairie chickens. I am sick of hunters having all the benifits of walking in the timber and parks shooting what ever is in front of them. I would like to safely walk those same timbers. I would also like to know the doves I have fed all these years are not going to be shot for the sport of it. Thank You.

  • Lois Gorman says:

    Dear representatives,

I was extrememly disturbed to see the news last night. Some woman in the legislature is insisting that any proof of animal abuse not even be allowed to be investigated. It is to be totally swept under the carpet. I don’t know who this woman is, but she is a disgrace to the Iowa Legislature. She was seen on film removing a picture of animal abuse. Even if this particular picture is real or not, does not matter. The truth can be investigated. However to pass legislation forbiding the reporting of abuse is barbaric and nothing more than a coverup. I wish I knew who this woman is trying to protect.

I have begged for legislation to make attending a dog fignt illegal, but to no avail. The current laws not allowing people to run a dog fight are sadly inadaquate. Police try to bust these sadistic rings, but no one present at a dog fight will claim to be in charge, so everyone walks. No one can protect these poor animals that are so abused and left to die gruesome deaths from their injurys.

If there is anything you can do to help protect these poor animals, please please do it. I am so counting on you to not let these poor creatures that can not speak up or defend themselves perish or worse yet suffer a life of inhumain treatment.

  • Sr. Vicky Arndorfer, rsm says:

Please do everything in your power to not pass a budget that takes away services and advocacy for women or from people with Intellectual Disabilities!

You continue to be in my prayers as you make decisions for the common good of your constituents.

  • Audrey says:

Please re-legalize cannabis. Please stop waisting money that can go towards education that you are otherwise spending on prosecuting. I know people who use cannabis recreationally and medicinally and they have never hurt anyone. It is time for the cannabis laws to change! The founders of this country not only used cannabis, but allowed farmers to pay their taxes with it! Richard Nixon was a bad president, why keep supporting his war against the people?

  • Kory Darnall says:

It would be beneficial for you to have a page on here showing how your members voted on bills!

  • Kat McWilliams says:

I watched the News this morning and found one of your own complaining about the President over looking the “African Amc. population unemployeed, in your fine state? I feel that the statement is kinda racisit to the point of pointing out color. How can we move on with race issues when statements are focused on a color of a certain race in the USA, instead of the FACT that we are ALL suffering unemployeement issues. Why should it matter what color I am? I have bills, kids to feed, and a household to keep going? It was a really bad stand for the American people.Im Amc. Indian and white, no one suffered more than my family in the USA and less than 1 percent of the population? So why is this small population looked at as less important? Stop bringing up race, stop causeing seperation between us do to color and stop making yourself appear more worthy of help, because your Black and because we have a black President.. Im not impressed with this rude Woman Rep. who clearly has issues with white people to go out of her way to say her race isn’t getting a fair shake. Get off your soap box lady and become a human again and stop spreading your racist commintary towards others…

  • Kelly Driscoll says:

Please put a stop to integrating the Motor Vehicle Enforcement with the Highway Patrol! The MVE cannot use the General Fund to pay its officers and neither can the DPS use the Road Fund to pay its officers. Having two different retirement funds and unions would make it nearly impossible to enter into available lateral positions and would just be a giant headache. Beyond that the Director of the DOT acted without much research and took all of the MVE officers off the road for a mandatory meeting (about joining DPS) costing Iowa taxpayers money for something that he doesn’t have legislative power to do!

  • paden muhlbauer says:

Dan is the real deal then these other members

  • Merritt Hadley says:

November 25, 2011 I had a birthday and turned 65 this week in the mail I received a Certificate of Recognition from The Iowa House of Representatives and with the signature of the Honorable Representative Ako Abdul-Samad for turning 65 and I wanted to thank all of you so again thank you!

  • Rev. Renee L TenEyck says:

I am both an ordained minister and a member of my current city’s planning commission, among other things, and I am appalled.
This is so horrible to me, that some people are really no different than Hitler or other extremists, in that they think they’re better than a group of people, in this case, gays, and not only think they have more moral value, but that they have the right to control or dictate the lives of that group, in this case, dictating the marriage decisions/abilities for this group. Heinous and horrible. As public officials, you should know that you answer to ALL your constituents, because some of that targeted group are also your taxpayers and constituents. Christianity (or any other religion) doesn’t have a monopoly on morality. This behavior from anyone is so cruel, especially public officials, elected by the people promoting discrimination and hatred rather than compassion and acceptance and protecting ALL your citizens. Are you aware that Iowa has six recognized hate groups? And your behavior fuels their horrible hate-mongering discrimination and lack of tolerance. As public officials, your job is to keep and protect ALL of your constituents, not just the ones you deem worthy.
This behavior from anyone, let alone a public official is so cruel, promoting discrimination and hatred. Now you have the opportunity to promote compassion and acceptance, or at least tolerance.

  • Jim Gunther says:

If the state wants to make it fair for the commercial property owner one idea would be to raise the tax rate on farmland to the full value of what they are paying for it.
If the farmer pays $18,000 to $20,000 per acre then the tax rate should be such

  • Boomer N Qureshi says:

    Dear Honorable Members,

I live in Davenport, but I work in Illinois, like many of my colleagues. I contribute daily to the economies of both states. Do I have a say so in Illinois matters? I’m greatly concerned about the big difference in firearm laws. I’m very afraid of taking my weapon to shooting ranges in Illinois. Thank you.

  • punk dress says:

  • Nick Roghair says:

Dan Muhlbauer, I hope you vote for to ban the red light cameras in Iowa. In sioux city, they shorten the yellow lights. When you drive slow, though a green light. Then the yellow light comes on. Before you get though the yellow light the lights ture red. And they send you a ticket.

  • Jim Miller says:

    Sir,
Please vote not to ban traffic cameras’. Look at it this way a camera is like having a cop on duty 24 /7 and not having to pay all the wages. They do slow down people. Go down 235 and where the cameras are traffic slows down after they think they are away from them . they pass you like you are stopped. People that obey the law shouldn’t worry about them. It’s the people who want to speed are the ones that don’t want them .It is like giving people a lic to speed because they know chances are they won’t get caught . Please make speeder sand red light runners accountable for their actions . Please pass this on to other repasenitves.

  • Marie says:

Please vote to ban the cameras in Iowa. Leave the money in Iowa. We don’t need companies from out of state preying on us. They do nothing but put up cameras and then take our money. They don’t care about us or our safety. They only want our money at any cost. The Iowa representatives should represent the people– it’s not a Republican/Democratic issue, it’s a people issue. If it was put to a vote we all know what the majority of voters in Iowa would say. You’re not a representative if you don’t represent. You’re then a person voting for your personal beliefs-that’s wrong. Don’t let the word safety get in the way. There are other ways we can be safe. We’ve managed to do it for a long time. We aren’t stupid hicks here in Iowa like these companies think we are, let’s tell them to get lost and don’t come back. We want to be known as a friendly state-not one where people driving through remember Iowa as the state that scrounged money off of them when they visited here.
