Member Profile: Michael J. Reasoner

0525807rep-reasoner-2007reducedMike Reasoner is serving his fourth term in the Iowa House. He was elected an Assistant Majority Leader by the House Democrats. He serves on the Administration & Rules, Agriculture, Commerce, and Ways & Means Committees.

Mike was born in Davenport and raised in Creston. After graduation from Creston High School, Mike earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Juris Doctorate from Creighton University.

For twelve years he owned and operated his own business – Reasoner Oil Company – a farm and industrial oil supplier.

Mike and his wife, Margaret, live in Creston. Margaret is a dental hygienist. They have three children: Will, 16; Annette, 12; and John, 9. They attend Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Prior to serving in the Iowa Legislature, Mike served two terms as a Union County Supervisor, providing him with eight years of experience managing a public budget and dealing with issues involving local, state, and federal laws.

He was interested in serving in the legislature in order to improve the quality of life for all Iowans. With three young children, he is especially interested in making sure our schools continue to maintain their high level of excellence, thus opening the doors of opportunity to future generations. Mike places a lot of importance on community values. He has served his fellow citizens in many ways. He served as the chair of the Region XIV Workforce Investment Board from 1997 – 2004, on the Innovative Industries Board of Trustees from 1995 – 2001, and on the Midwest Opportunities Board of Trustees from 2000 – present.
