0525807rep-lykam-2007reducedJim Lykam is serving his fifth term in the Iowa House. He serves as the Chair of the Public Safety Committee. He also serves on the Transportation, Natural Resources and the Transportation, Infrastructure & Capitals Budget Subcommittee.

Jim was born and raised in Davenport. He is a graduate of Davenport West High School and Palmer Junior College. He ran a small business for over 25 years.

Jim and his wife, Barb, have been married for thirty-seven years. They live in Davenport. Barb is a nurse. They have one son: Jeff, 28.

Jim ran for the Legislature to work towards maintaining Iowa’s excellent education system, creating good jobs, ensuring public safety, and find new ways to grow as a state. Lykam wants future generations of Iowans to be able to find good jobs and interesting opportunities so they can remain in Iowa. This will require plans to spur investment capital and to encourage technology-based companies to locate here. He sees diversification as a way to bring more good paying jobs to Iowa, a winning situation for the state and its citizens.

Jim has an extensive record of civic involvement. He served on the Davenport Plan & Zoning Commission and on the Park & Recreation Advisory Committee, chairing the baseball subcommittee. He has also served as the vice president of the Davenport Colt League, the manager of the West Pony League, and a member emeritus of the Scott County Humane Society. His memberships further include the Davenport Moose Lodge, Davenport Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite and Kaaba Shrine.
