Member Profile: Lisa Heddens

0525807rep-heddens-2007Lisa Heddens is serving her third term in the Iowa House. She is an assistant Majority Leader. She serves on the Administration and Rules, Education, Human Resources and the Public Safety Committees.

Lisa was born on June 6, 1964 in Rochester, Minnesota. She and her husband Jeff moved to Iowa in 1984 and have lived in Ames for over twenty years.

In 1989, Lisa earned a teaching certificate in elementary education at Iowa State University. She has spent most of her professional life working with family service agencies. She currently works for ASK- the Access for Special Kids – Resource Center, a statewide non-profit organization that offers information and trainings on special education issues. From 1994-1998, she served as Family Support Coordinator for the U.S. Army Reserves. She has worked as a substitute teacher in Ames and the surrounding school districts and was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2002.

Lisa’s husband Jeff is a Construction Engineer with the Iowa Department of Public Defense. They have two children.
