Member Profile: Marcella Frevert

0525807rep-frevert-2007reducedMarcie Frevert is serving her sixth term in the Iowa House. She is Chair of the Administrative Rules Review Committee. She also serves on the Agriculture, Environmental Protection, and Ways and Means committees, as well as the Education Appropriations Subcommittee.

She is Vice Chair of the Environmental Protection Committee and serves on the Agriculture, and Ways and Means committees, as well as the Education Appropriations Subcommittee. She is chair of the Administrative Rules Review Committee.

Marcie received an AA degree from Emmetsburg Community College, a Bachelors of Science in Education from Mankato State University, and a Master of Science in educational psychology from the University of Northern Iowa. She earned reading specialist certification at the University of Iowa.

Marcie and her husband, Dr. William Frevert, live in Emmetsburg and are the parents of four children: Jody, Anne, Kristen, and Kortney. They have twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Bill is a veterinarian.

Prior to her service in the legislature, Marcie was an elementary teacher in the Emmetsburg school system. In 1994, she was recognized as the Iowa Reading Teacher of the year. In 1999, she was selected the Iowa Lakes Community College Outstanding Alumnus.

Marcie has served twelve years as a Palo Alto County Soil Commissioner and in 1993 was recognized as Iowa Region II Outstanding District Commissioner.

Marcie is a member of the United Methodist Church as well as a member of numerous other groups including the Iowa Soybean and Corn Growers Association, Iowa Pork Producers, Iowa Cattlemen’s Association, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and the Farmers Union, which has honored her as a Friend of Family Farms twice.

She also belongs to the Emmetsburg, Estherville, Algona, and Spencer Chambers of Commerce, the Iowa and International Reading Associations, the Emmetsburg and Iowa State Education Associations (retired), and the Palo Alto and Iowa Federated Women’s Club.

She feels strongly about the preservation of Iowa’s rural lifestyle, accessible and affordable health care, maintaining Iowa’s strong education system, and tax equity.
