Terry Hertle, a lifelong resident of Benton County, has lived in only one place – his family’s century farm north of Newhall. His ambition was always to be a farmer. After a lifetime of farming, he has decided to retire.

Two years after graduating from Newhall High School, Terry married Judith Sindt, and from that union came two children, Kevin and Denise. They now have two granddaughters, Felicia and Alexandria. Terry’s family belongs to St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, where Terry has served several times as president of the Friendship Club and six years as trustee.

Terry presently belongs to the Farm Bureau, National Farmer’s Union and Benton County Pork Producers. He is a past member of the Benton County Cattlemen, Benton County Soybean Association, Iowa Corn Growers and Lions Club. In the past Terry also served on the WMT Radio Farm Panel and was on the Pioneer Seed Corn Advisory Board. He is also active in the Benton County Democrats. In 2007, Terry and his wife were co-chairmen of the Newhall 125th Celebration. Terry presently represents Newhall for the Benton County Community Foundation.

Terry was active in 4-H as a youth and served as a Benton County 4-H president. Since that time he has always had an interest in 4-H and extension programs and has helped at the Benton County fair annually. Terry and his wife were named statewide recipients of the “Friends of Extension” award for 2007. Terry served four years on the Benton County Extension Council and served as president three of those years. He also graduated from the extension program “Dynamic Leaders” in 2007.

Terry enjoys his large collection of farm toys as well as his nearly complete collection of Pioneer Seed Corn signs, sacks and memorabilia. Presently, Terry is busy researching the “Hertle” family genealogy.

In his spare time, Terry enjoys golfing. He and his wife are members of the Tara Hills Golf Club.
