Member profile: Rep. Beth Wessel-Kroeschell

Beth is serving her 2nd term in the Iowa House of Representatives. She serves on the Environmental Protection, Judiciary, State Government (Vice Chair), and Human Resources committees and the Justice Systems Appropriations Subcommittee (Vice Chair).
Beth is married to Tom Kroeschell. He is the Associate Athletic Director, Media Relations at Iowa State University. They have two children, Liza a high school freshman and Robbie a fourth grader in the Ames School District.
Beth was born and raised in Ames and graduated from Ames High School. Her father Robert Wessel is a retired political science professor at ISU. Her mother Edith, was the director of Ames Visiting Nurse Service. They still live in Ames. After Beth graduated from Ames High, she earned her BA from University of Northern Iowa, and her MPA from Iowa State University.
Beth is a member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church. She has been treasurer, vice-president, and president of the church council. She was on the board of ACCESS, a battered women’s shelter, for 4 years and served as their president, through a trying time in the organization. She was chair of the Story County Equal Rights Amendment campaign in 1992.
Beth, a former desktop publisher, was the interim director of ACCESS (Battered Women’s shelter), a public school teacher, assistant director of the Association of Boards and Certification, and worked for the Iowa Farmer’s Union.
