Small business owner and community activist Tim Hoy of Eldora announced today that he will seek election to House District 44, which covers Hardin, Marshall and Franklin Counties.

“As a small business owner, I understand both the challenges and opportunities our state faces in helping communities thrive and create good-paying jobs while balancing the budget. Vibrant main streets are the backbone of small town Iowa. I returned to Iowa because it is a great place to raise a family and the quality of life is second to none. My goal as state representative is to listen to the people of House District 44 and strengthen Iowa’s middle class,” said Hoy.

Tim and his wife Melody, a registered pharmacist, own and operate Eldora Valu-Rite Pharmacy and Ahoy Fountain. In addition to being a small business owner, Tim has been active in his community through serving on the city council and as Mayor of Eldora and he is the founding chairperson of Eldora Trees Forever. He is actively involved in the downtown restoration project, historic preservation initiatives, the Greater Eldora Chamber of Commerce, Eldora Emergency Management Services and the Eldora Area Health Services.

“From affordable health care to improving education to good-paying jobs, we must ensure our state is a place where my daughters want to grow up and raise their own families. We should always put aside partisanship and special interests to do what it is best for Iowa,” added Hoy. “I look forward to meeting people at their door step to hear their ideas and suggestions for making Iowa a better place to live.”

Tim was born is Saginaw, Michigan and moved with his family to Eldora in 1963, where his father was employed at Iowa State Training School. Tim is a graduate of Eldora High School and attended Drake University where he received a degree in Business Administration. Tim then spent ten years in administration with Marine Drilling Company in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In 1991, the Hoys felt the desire to return to their roots in Iowa. Tim and his wife, who is originally from Grundy Center, and their two daughters returned to Eldora to start two businesses and raise their family with Midwest values and a strong Iowa education.
