Fedler Announces Bid for House District 91

Posted in Candidates on Nov 26, 2007

West Point Mayor and US Army veteran Ron Fedler today declared his bid for state representative in House District 91, which includes Henry County and northern Lee County.

“After serving my country and community for over 30 years, I’m ready to listen to Iowans and serve as their representative at the Statehouse. My experience has prepared me well to find solutions to the challenges that our state faces today in creating good jobs, improving health care, and keeping the public safe,” said Fedler.

Fedler, a Democrat, graduated from high school in West Point and then served in the United States Army. He returned to West Point after service, continued his education and owned a successful small business. He is currently a correctional officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison.

“I understand the struggle of middle class families who are just a paycheck or illness away from financial trouble. The state needs to focus job creation efforts on high-wage jobs that
have good benefits, especially health insurance,” added Fedler. “Small businesses are the
backbone of our economy and we must do more to help them flourish and create new jobs.”

Fedler served two terms on the West Point City Council and is currently serving his third term as Mayor. He volunteered for the West Point Volunteer Fire and Rescue for seven years and served as American Legion Commander for Holt-Gears Post 668 in West Point. He opened and has run a successful small business in West Point.

“Over the next year, I will work hard to earn the trust and respect of voters in House District 91. I look forward to meeting citizens at their doorstep and listening to their ideas and concerns,” added Fedler.

I’m in Mt. Pleasant, part of District 91. And I’m really happy that an obviously strong Democratic candidate is going to challenge for this seat in 2008!!

Hey Ron, Im looking out for you man. This is a letter I sent to the Mount Pleasant News today:

    Dear MP news

This is an excerpt from your 12/24/07 article about David Heaton running for re election

    I’m not kidding, it reads:
Heaton has been a strong voice for small businesses and an effective leader on health and human services issues. He is eager to continue his commitment to the people of House District 91.

are you kidding me? Who on earth wrote this? You don’t have to be a journalism graduate to know this is awful, lazy journalism.

either number 1.) the writer is in the bag for Heaton - which I don’t think he or she is.

or 2.) the writer is simply lazy - It’s almost as if he or she took words literally off of his press release, and cut and paste it onto a hard news piece.

EXCUSE me. but I am a graduate of journalism and I know you are NEVER supposed to write sentences like “Heaton has been a strong voice for small businesses…..” You are SUPPOSED to write, Heaton SAID he has been a strong voice…..

give me a break you guys, your supposed to be professional

If I see a massive oversight like this again - where whole articles are written this bad, Your going to catch hell with my phone call.
