State Representative Doris Kelley of Waterloo has been tapped to lead the House Financial Services Standing Subcommittee by House Speaker Pat Murphy of Dubuque. The subcommittee will review all legislation relating to banks and credit unions. The subcommittee is part of the House Commerce Committee, which considers all legislation regarding business, financial institutions, insurance, utilities and real estate.

“Rep. Kelley’s experience in business, community development, and telecommunications has prepared her to lead the financial services committee,” said Murphy. “I know she will work across party lines and listen. Rep. Kelley can build consensus on difficult issues and she will always do what is best for her district.”

“The financial services industry in Iowa must be strong to keep our economy growing and creating good jobs. I look forward to leading the financial services committee,” said Kelley.

In addition to serving on the Commerce Committee, Kelley serves on Education, Local Government, Ways & Means and Administration & Regulation Appropriations. The 2008 legislative session begins on Monday, January 14, 2008.
